Adopted text on the work: According to Ambroz, this simple performance piece, which involved the burning of large sheets of pasted-together newspapers, was not a political manifestation but a documentation of the process of self-awareness. Thanks to the dramatic setting of the snow-covered landscape in which it takes place, the film (which was only discovered in 2015) possesses an impressive artistic quality. It is an interesting example of the semi-private behavior of a close circle of friends who nevertheless approach art with all earnestness. Under the difficult social and cultural situation of Normalization-era Czechoslovakia, similar circles of friends acted as safety nets that gave birth to the era’s original works of unofficial art.
