Digitized black-and-white 16mm film with sound

Adopted text on the work: Finger Score shows a performance of Grygar’s abstract drawing scores that he began creating using his fingerprints on staff paper in the 1960s. These art experiments were made against the backdrop of the era’s concrete music, by which they were influenced and into which they introduced a new dimension. The film primarily depicts musician Alan Vitouš playing the cymbals according to Grygar’s finger score. Grygar himself can be seen at the beginning of his film while preparing the performance with the musician. Nevertheless, the film is more than a mere documentation of a studio concert performed according to an unusual score – the consciously constructed scene shows ritualized behavior that can act as a distinctive artifact on its own. The film is thus one of the work’s possible final forms.
