Adopted text on the work: I often felt nauseous before I was to go to school because our teachers used to humiliate us. The only way to survive school was to do something creative – to photograph or to make movies. My classmate Rinalds had an 8 mm camera, so we also took to making films. We worked well together. The one who’d come up with an idea would take the role of the actor, the other one would be the cameraman. Or the other way around. We’d shoot what we thought was “cool” to be filmed. Our films can be divided in two categories: art films (following an idea, an experiment) and documents (everyday life in the school: fights among classmates, teachers). Movies called “I.R. Piktuers” (I. = Ivars, R. = Rinalds, Piktuers = twisted word “pictures” were mostly made between 1992-1993 at the elementary school in Riga. This edited version was made in 2012.
