NOTES AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Notes: Included in the compilation He Who Laughs: Art About the World of Art (edited by T. Nekvindová, S. Sobotovičová). “Art about art” – videos that aim directly at the art world or wend their way through art history. Published in 2013 by the Research Centre of Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (VVP AVU).
Adopted text on the work: An artist’s confession of the frustration of the periphery, whose gloom is further heightened by night and illness. The web camera is Surůvka’s only close companion in his moment of need, but also represents a channel to the world of art: Only in this way can the despair of loneliness be shared. Despite the fact that Surůvka is flogging a dead horse (his performance is an imitation of actor Pavel Liška on the television comedy show Stand-Up, who was talking about a country song), the pain is clearly real and the cliché is filled with truthful meaning.
