The i-datum database of contemporary Czech art was originally launched in tandem with the research project into the period of transformation from the 1980s to the present day. It ran in parallel to the AVU Research Centre archive and provided basic information on important artists and groups, important exhibition projects, galleries and art magazines during this period.

In 2009 an agreement was signed with the Centre for Contemporary Art Prague on cooperation and coordination of the databases artlist.cz and i-datum.cz. As a consequence both databases were cross-referenced, which facilitates searching and improves the quality of information provided. At the same time both retain their specific character, i.e. artlist casts a broad view over entire varied contemporary Czech art scene, while i-datum offers a more detailed selection focusing on the processing of the material documented.
i-datum.cz was not an attempt to create a single, unbroken line in Czech art. Instead, it documented, described and connected up individual points on a pulsating surface. Taken together, these points created a variable picture of the present and recent past.
At present i-datum is a closed project. The sections Artists and Institutions have been split off into separate archives and their online databases are being constantly updated.
The AVU Research Centre video archive, a database of contemporary Czech video art and video documentation of Czech art since 1980, which was part of i-datum from 2007, over recent years has become the main component of the archival and documentation activities of the Research Centre.

I-datum.cz - internet database of contemporary Czech art is founded on a simple search system. For searching in "All sections", you may type one or more words in the "Word" field and click on "Search". The system will display in the table all records in which any of the words appears. You can then browse selected data in the table by clicking on the record you select.
For searching only in a certain section - artists, groups, institutions, exhibitions, texts, multimedia - select this category in the "Search" column. You can then enter one or more words in the "Word" field and click on "Search". The system will again display in a table all records in which any of the words appears. You can browse the selected data in the table by clicking on the record you select.
I-datum.cz is a sophisticated database system, which has hot words in individual records (names of artists, groups, institutions, exhibitions) linked to a related or main record in the database. These words are highlighted in blue and are activated by clicking on them.
Every record in the database can be converted to printable form by clicking on the "Print" button.
